Built for income that doesn't arrive in straight lines
Vermtage started with a simple observation: financial tools are built for salaried stability, not the variable, project-based reality of independent work. We set out to change that.
From a shared frustration to a working discipline
Vermtage was founded by people who had spent years advising freelancers, contractors, and gig-based earners — and kept seeing the same gap. Standard risk models assumed monthly paychecks. Ours don't.
Where we started
Early conversations with independent earners revealed a pattern: income volatility wasn't the real problem. The real problem was that no tool accounted for it properly. Budgeting apps flagged normal income swings as red alerts. Lenders and insurers treated irregular earners as high-risk by default, regardless of their actual financial discipline.
We began building a different kind of system — one that reads income patterns over time rather than judging a single slow month.
Where we are now
Today, Vermtage applies AI-driven analysis to help independent and gig-based earners understand, plan for, and manage financial risk on their own terms. We remain focused on a narrow, well-defined problem rather than trying to be a generic finance app.
We're still shaped by that original observation: variability is not the same as instability, and it deserves tools that reflect that difference.
Give variable earners the clarity that steady earners already have
Our mission is to make risk management approachable and accurate for anyone whose income doesn't follow a fixed schedule — freelancers, contractors, creators, and gig workers. We do this by building models that reflect how independent income actually behaves, not how traditional payroll income behaves.
We're not trying to replace judgment. We're trying to give people better information so their own judgment goes further.
Principles that guide how we build
These aren't slogans on a wall — they're the constraints we design against every day.
Accuracy over reassurance
We'd rather show an uncomfortable but honest risk picture than a comforting one that misleads. Good decisions need real information.
Built for irregular income
Every model, threshold, and recommendation we ship is designed around variable earning patterns first — never adapted from a salaried template.
Plain language, always
Risk analysis is only useful if people understand it. We avoid jargon and explain the reasoning behind every insight we surface.
Respect for autonomy
Independent earners chose that path for a reason. Our tools are meant to support decisions, not dictate them.
Continuous refinement
Income patterns evolve, and so do our models. We treat every dataset as a chance to sharpen our understanding, not confirm what we already assumed.
Proportionate caution
We flag genuine risk without manufacturing urgency. Trust is built by being right consistently, not by being loud occasionally.
A small, focused group
Vermtage is built by a team with backgrounds spanning financial risk analysis, applied data science, and independent work itself. Rather than list individual roles here, we prefer to let the product and our approach speak for how we work — you're welcome to reach out through our contact page if you'd like to know more about the people behind it.
